Happy New Years!!!

Happy New Years everybody!!! I can't believe it's 2012 already. Last year seemed to fly by and held so many new and exciting changes! I hope this year is just as great for each and every one of us.

The start of a new year not only means new adventures but also that.... TV SHOWS ARE FINALLY BACK!!! First off I'd like to mention the Bachelor. As everyone knows Jennie and I love the Bachelor however I was no that excited about Ben being the bachelor this season. I figured I'd still watch the show and let's just say I'm not sure I will make it through this season. We all know I seem to find the drama, but I have never seen so much drama in my life. And what is up with the crying girl?!? Seriously Ben you kept HER!!!! After watching the previews I predict lots of crying and meltdowns and never a dull moment. It's going to be interesting.... Thankfully I have Vampire Diaries to keep me sane. I mean who didn't love the kiss between Elena and Damon. Oh and Grey's Anatomy I would just like to point out cost me an entire box of tissues this week. I figured after 6 full seasons that it was impossible to create a episode that emotional as this weeks but clearly I was wrong.

Monday TV Roundup

It seems like it's about time to go a little bit more in depth with some of the Monday TV that was on tonight. I tend to DVR everything, so I don't necessarily watch my shows in order. I'll blog on them in the order they were seen...

Let's start with Hart of Dixie. I'm really enjoying this little show, the premise is pretty cute and I think Rachel Bilson is really pulling off the New Yorker transplant role. She's not coming off like an annoying outsider as much as I thought they would play up, so I'm definitely happy about that!

Tonight, the town of Bluebell was hit with a "heat wave" which basically gave the writers the ability to have most of the male cast in various states of undress. For the rest of this post the "heat wave" will no longer be called such and will henceforth be known as the "hottie wave."

Along with the hottie wave, this episode featured more of the various hookups and crushes. Zoe and Wade had a moment which I was all for! Of course we're supposed to be rooting for Zoe and George, but Wade as the cute, totally wrong for her country boy seems all right for her. George and Lemon are supposed to be the perfect couple, mainly because she's just annoyingly perfect. I think the part about Lemon that annoys me the most is the outfits. Was Jamie King in the movie Pleasantville? No? Well her clothes sure were...

As much as I can't really stand Lemon with George (even though I'm not totally set on Zoe with George yet, either), I do kinda love her with Lavon. We haven't seen how this is going to play out yet, but I'm interested in finding out what happened here and if dear old dad Brick is as big of a part in their secrecy as I'm kind of thinking he must be.

After Hart I tuned in to Gossip Girl and the big reveal of Dan's novel. The novel was met with a mixed bag of reviews, great ones from the critics and very bad ones from the people portrayed in the novel.

Serena was unhappy with being portrayed as a perpetual party girl, Blair as Dan's love interest, Rufus as a has been who married for money, Chuck as a suicidal billionare, and Nate as nothing. It seems like yes, everyone had room to be upset, but really couldn't they recognize this is as a first book with room for a sequel? I mean, overreaction much? The one part that I'm really loving about this season is the change in Chuck. He has adopted the cutest dog and his exchange tonight with Lily was very sweet. It seems he has changed for the better, soon it will be time for him to get back with Blair. Let's face it, they belong together.  Tonight's side story was that of Ivy/Charlie and Diana finding out her true identity. It will be interesting to see what kind of shenanigans she gets into. It's about time for Ivy/Charlie to get to be something other than the crazy bad girl, don't you think? I was actually thinking it was nice that they were giving her a second chance. Well there goes that...

Last but not least tonight was Terra Nova. In tonight's episode the sixers sent in a spy in the form of little runaway girl Leah. Of course she has to stay with the Shannon family and they all learn to love and trust her. Mira even stages a mini battle to "break out" little Leah and learn that she "ran away" from the sixers. Quite the confusing plot twist we have.

Ultimately Leah stays and proceeds to break into Mira's old house, find some ominous unopenable box, and get caught on her way out by Jim. When he goes outside the gates to find the brother she has convinced him that Mira is holding captive he learnes quite a bit (without actually learning anything) about what is really going on at Terra Nova. Is Taylor the good guy or the bad guy? What are they in Terra Nova for if it's not to start over? What is in the box? We get left with a lot of questions, and I for one am really interested in the show and finding out some of the answers. They can't give away everything this first season, now can they?

What did you think about tonight's shows? Do you think Zoe will ever pick a guy? Are Dan's friends going to come around? Is Taylor as bad as we think he is? I guess we'll see later...

It's Official...

NBC cancelled Playboy Club.

I'm pretty sure nobody in the free world is surprised that this show got cancelled, but I have to say I didn't think it was that bad. I hate to say that if this show was on HBO it probably would have been able to include just enough "spice" to actually keep it going. I have a feeling that so much of the issues with Playboy Club were from it being on a network station and not being able to get into the how the real playboy club was made popular. I always hate to see new shows leave, but with this one I guess I'll just have to conclude with a "buh-bye Tamara!"

So what do you think will be next? My guess is most likely Charlie's Angels. I mean, it seems like nobody is enjoying this show. I kinda feel bad for her that Rachel Taylor left a recurring role on Grey's Anatomy in order to "star" in this show. Hopefully they'll let Dr. Lucy come running back into the arms of Karev and let them be cute baby doctors together.

There are some new shows that I would be devastated if they get cancelled at this point! I'm loving Hart of Dixie because it's just adorable and I love Rachel Bilson. I heard that it doesn't have super fantastic ratings right now, but I'm really hoping that CW gives it a chance to shine and lets it stick around. Honestly, I haven't been super impressed with Gossip Girl so it's no wonder Hart isn't getting as many viewers from that.

On Fox, and also on Monday nights, I'm definitely hooked on Terra Nova. This show is just plain cool! I know that Fox is only airing 12 episodes this season, but I really hope that they have enough viewers to keep it going for another season next year. It's definitely one to watch.

Monday's are officially my biggest TV night because I also have 2 Broke Girls on CBS that I have to watch. Kat Dennings is hilarious and I'm really liking the concept of the show.

My last show that I'd be upset if it's cancelled is ABC's Revenge. I think that at this point this is probably my favorite new show of the season. I'm not sure if it's sustainable, but at the very least I hope ABC keeps it around so I'll know if Emily/Amanda can take down the "Queen of the Hamptons." You go girl!

THE MAYBE SHOWS...

So another week of TV is coming to a close and I am still finding it hard to get into a few of the newer shows. As much as I'm wanting to stick with them, I am slowly losing interest. However there are a few shows I'm loving.

For starters I have to mention The Ringer. It seriously is a bad soap opera made for late night TV. The storyline gets more complex and more ridiculous each week, yet somehow I can't stop watching. It's like a car accident that you can't look away from, yet you know it's bad from you. I go away from each episode feeling worse about myself for wasting another hour of my life on it. As much as I love Sarah Michelle Gellar, I might have to be breaking up with her on this one.

Another show I'm about to give up on is Charlie's Angels. Seriously it boring and uneventful. On top of that, it doesn't even come close to comparing to the original. Although on a positive side, it does fit the poster completely. Simple, white and unoriginal yet lacking nostalgia.

After this weeks episode of Playboy Club, I'm still on the fence. I neither have positive thoughts for it or negative at the moment. I'm not excited about it, but I'm also not wanting to run the other way. It is starting to develop a plot a little more, so we will see if my thoughts change by next week.

Now for the shows I'm loving. As an earlier post mentioned, I absolutely LOVE Hart of Dixie. I think it is absolutely fabulous and will only get better. Another show I'm completely addicted to is Revenge. It is everything the title leads it to be. It's catty and drama filled and beyond juicy. I can not get enough of it!!! I'm also seriously intrigued with The Secret Circle. It is the perfect companion to Vampire Diaries and I believe that Kevin Williamson can do no wrong. I'm and not completely hooked on the show yet, however I do not foresee any reason that it will not become a favorite for me.

This week Pan Am and Terra Nova premiered. Both of these shows equally surprised me. I was really on the fence with both of these shows on whether I would enjoy them. They are completely different shows, yet they both offered something I could enjoy. Pan Am had the right mixture of drama and adventure and should be interesting to see where it goes. So far I really like the show, but it will be interesting to see where it goes. Terra Nova however I am absolutely in love with. After the end of Lost I felt that there would never be a show with the same mystery surrounding it, but Terra Nova defiantly fits that category. I view it as a mixture of Lost and Firefly and I can not wait to continue on with the journey.

Hart of Dixie Pilot Review - Joint Post

Jennie's thoughts:
I love love LOVED this show! It's just the right mix of clever and cute to make me want to keep watching. Obviously there are other doctor shows on TV right now, but I really enjoyed the concept of this one and the idea that not all life plans work out exactly the way we think they should. I think for a soon to be post-grad this is a good concept for how to think about life after school. Things happen for a reason.

I really liked the fact that the pilot episode could stand on its own. I think a lot of the time shows try to give such a huge cliffhanger so that you have to watch them that they don't give enough of a hook into the story. I liked how we really get to develop Zoe's character and understand why she ended up in Blue Bell all in the first episode. Yes, there are still some weird things in the story that kind of allude to future episodes (like what's up with Lemon and Lavon...) and of course there will be the love triangle thing probably going throughout the season. I think they kept enough back that people will keep watching, but actually gave us a reason to want to see the whole first episode through. The only thing I was really missing was a best friend character for Zoe. I mean, we obviously know who her enemy is (Lemon) but her nurse's assistant is too old to be a bestie. Maybe it'll be Lavon?

I have to say, favorite part of the whole show is when Zoe goes and gets her wine and is looking for a dry chardonney and asks the clerk girl who promptly hands her a box of wine. And then the subsequent scene of her walking down the road, stopping to fill up her dixie cup from the box, and continuing on. It was just fun and cute and definitely made me laugh. Who doesn't enjoy a nice boxed wine, am I right?


This is definitely my favorite new show so far and could be my favorite show period this season! I can't wait to see more! What'd you think?

As Jennie stated as well, this may be one of my favorite shows this season. It was the perfect mixture of fun and intrigue at the same time. Everything about the episode makes me want to watch the next one. Being out of college for a few years and nothing working out as I had planned is exactly what Zoe is coming to grips with. This is so true to any college graduate and young adult. Life doesn't go as planned, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the journey. I think this season will show Zoe's journey of accepting her new reality.

My favorite scene of the premiere episode had to be the Burt Reynolds scene. It was so true to her character and background. And who wouldn't want a sexy young guy rescuing you? I can't wait to watch the inevitable love triangle develop throughout the season. I'm also anxious to learn more about Lemon and Dr. Breeland's story. Seriously what is up with those two?

TV Promo Posters

My DVR is getting pretty full with the TV shows that I need to catch up on, so I'm not really ready to post about the content just yet. But one thing I do love about a new TV season are new TV promotional posters. This season I thought some were really good and some were just kinda blah. Here are a couple of the ones I found noteworthy (for being both good and not so good):

Hart of Dixie (Monday's on the CW)

I thought this poster was absolutely adorable and has some great details (like the little heart stethescope). I wonder if they purposely got suitcases that looked big enough for Rachel Bilson to crawl inside... probably. I've seen other promotional images that have a posed image of all the ensemble cast with Rachel Bilson in the middle. I definitely like this one because having her alone seems to portray what I think the show will be about: a big city girl moving into the middle of nowhere and being forced to figure things out on her own. This hits the mark for me. Grade: A

Grimm (Fridays on NBC)

I also really responded to this poster. From the initial look it just looks like any other CSI-type show with two guys examining the dead body, but look a little deeper. The hand in the foreground, the house billowing smoke in the background, and is that a red hood next to the body? I also liked the tagline here "not your usual suspects." Grade: A

Ringer (Tuesdays on the CW):

It's true, Sarah Michelle Gellar can do no wrong in my eyes and I have been anxiously awaiting her return to TV. I think these promo images really get across the main concept of the show (the twin thing) without pulling out so much of the additional story lines to confuse people. For a first season introductory promo I think they did a really good job. Grade: A

Secret Circle (Thursdays on the CW):

I thought this poster was alright. Not fantastic, but definitely not the worst of the bunch.
The coloring on it and the birds show that there is a little bit of a supernatural vibe to the show and the kids actually look like they're dressed appropriate for their characters. If the show sticks around for a second season I would hope that the poster starts to show a little bit more. Grade: B

Revenge (Wednesdays on ABC):

My only real problem with this is that Emily Van Camp looks about 40 feet tall. The thorn dress seems very appropriate, but it's soooo obviously photoshopped that it really loses it's appeal for me. I think I would like the poster a whole lot better if Emily was shown at more of a distance and the dress extended out in front of her instead of below her. I just think this looks weird... Grade: C

Pan Am (Sundays on ABC):

This poster has certainly grown on me. I first saw it and really didn't like it at all, but now I'm starting to see that it's okay for a first season attempt. I don't like how it seems obvious that the four ladies were photographed seperately and photoshopped together, they're in a little bit different places in their stride and I think it would have been much better if they were in the same place. Also, what's with the girl on the end of the right side who has her left leg forward instead of her right? I thought that part of the pan am brand is that they're all the exact same. Details people! Grade: C

Nikita (Fridays on the CW):

I'm giving this a C rating primarily because it's missing Alex! The tag line on it is "new allies, new enemies, new night." This picture does a great job of showing Nikita with her "new allies," but where are her "new enemies?" I feel like they should have had Alex in there on the left. Grade: C

Vampire Diaries (Thursdays on the CW):

I have to say, I don't think this poster says anything about the show or the third season. The one thing I do like about it is that they included Claus. I'm really excited that he's sticking around to be the bad guy on this upcoming season. But really, Elena wouldn't be wearing that ball gown. It's just a poster of pretty people in pretty poses and I don't see it attracting any new viewers unless they just really think the boys are hot (which they are, let's face it!). Grade: D

Gossip Girl (Mondays on the CW):

My issue with the Vampire Diaries poster is pretty much my same issue with this poster. Are they telling me to watch Gossip Girl because it's a bunch of pretty people in pretty clothes and pretty poses? Yes, Serena and Blair do dress up in pretty outfits and get all glammed out on occasion, but this poster sends a message to me that this is all the show is about. and what's with Dan in a suit? I thought he was supposed to be the cool hipster guy that was way too dorkishly cute to be bothered with the high society life! He looks pretty high society to me. I just don't think this poster gives anything about the characters or what the show is going to be about this season. Grade: D

Charlie's Angels (Thursdays on ABC):

I think ABC could have gone a lot of different directions with this promo. They could have gone completely nostalgic and done the Charlie's Angels "pose" we all know. They could have gone funky and shown how these aren't the same angels from the 70s. But instead they give us three pretty white girls (hey, I thought the one girl was actually black?!) in white dresses on a white background. They aren't showing any personality here to show how different they are and they aren't kickin it old school to play on the nostalgia. Grade: F
