We are goin to Monte Carlo!

Michelle tends to see all the good movies before I do and Monte Carlo was no exception. One rough thing about Michelle being in Colorado is that we don't get to go see our "type" of movies together in the theater so I have to wait for them to come out on DVD. I have to say, Monte Carlo was so cute it was worth the wait!

The premise of the movie is that three girls go together to Paris before being swept off to Monte Carlo through a series of mistaken identities. I'm glad that Katie Cassidy had a better time in Paris than she did in Taken... that would have been a much different movie.

Selena Gomez, while unlikely to win any acting awards in her career, was incredibly likeable in her role as Grace/Cordelia. This movie is very character and plot driven, and it definitely made you root for Grace to be an underdog winner.

Yes, the pitfalls of all young romantic comedies are included in Monte Carlo. You're always waiting for the other shoe to drop and for Grace to be found out. Boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, boy and girl cannot be together but in the end find a way to make it work. It's a pretty regular story line, but it was just so sweet in this movie.

This movie had a couple scenes that were really good teaching moments. I especially liked the scene when Emma was out to dinner with the prince and stood up to clear tables because she knew that "there are people for that." She thought she wanted to be a princess but found out that it's nice just to be yourself.

I also loved the Meg/Riley story. Leighton Meester was a perfect casting choice and thawed out her ice queen role nicely throughout the movie.

I will definitely be watching Monte Carlo again! This is a movie that I plan on buying and that I hope comes with a digital copy so that I can watch it over whenever I need a girly fix. Sometimes you just need a cute, silly little romantic movie, don't you?

Birthday Weekend Wrap-Up

So it's been a little while since I've posted anything. With school, work, Halloween and my birthday it's been pretty hectic. My birthday was yesterday so of course I elected to go see movies and have some popcorn (would I have it any other way!?). I saw my first imax 3d movie which ironically was Puss in Boots. I'm not too sure that Puss in Boots was the best movie to see for my first imax but it was still pretty cool. I was thoroughly impressed. We finished off the double feature with some Justin Timberlake and saw In Time. After the movies we went to Baker St. and I swear it was 70's night. All the cougars were out in full force but hey at least I got to drink for free!!! Plus there was a fat version of Bill Gates which alone was entertaining but add in the bald guy with the mullet and cross earrings, and we had an epic evening.

So I'm really not a huge Shrek fan but I thought Puss in Boots looked really funny. My prediction was right. This movie was hilarious and exactly what I needed. Even if you are not a cat lover you will appreciate all the signature mannerisms of a cat. The story starts with Puss in Boots on the run and hearing this elaborate tale of magic beans. He tries to steal the magic beans and meets Kitty in the process. Kitty is working with Egg who is Puss's childhood friend. We find out the history of Puss in Boots and how he came to be who he is as well as get to enjoy some life lessons of friendship, good vs evil and of course love. For any lover of animated movies and of course any cat lover, I highly recommend this movie. A-

OHHHHHHH Justin Timberlake, it's always an adventure with you. While I have enjoyed your movies, it seems to be hit and miss with you and your acting ability. In Time is not an exception to that statement. The movie is a basically a new way to view today's society and how the rich and the poor are so far apart. The world is divided up into districts and to pass into another district you must pay with "time". This "time" is our version of money however if you run out of time you die instantly. Each day people work to earn just one more day of life and many individuals go to the extreme to gamble or kill others to steal their time. Justin's character is given over a century of time from a man who is tired of living. Justin crosses all the districts to go from district 12 to 1 and spends many years to get there. Once he is there he realizes that the rich are stealing from the poor and he sets out to change this with the help (although at first unwilling) of the "millionaire's" daughter. Everyone in the movie is suppose to be 25, as that is when your time starts to count down. I must say that while Olivia Wilde was a charming addition to the movie as Justin's mother, it was odd to see them as mother and son. To conclude Justin Timberlake..... Please don't ever pretend to cry again. It was rather painful to watch. C+

Awkward Date Night

So while I was in Oklahoma this past week I managed to get a date in. While the date went great... I pulled a total Michelle and made an idiot of myself. For starters I looked at my watch with 2 minutes left in the movie thinking I was still on Colorado time and decided since we had "an hour" left I could sneak out to the bathroom. Needless to say I walked back in when the credits were coming on. So I crept back up to my seat only to realize that I was on the wrong row and had to climb over the seat just in time for the lights to come on. Yep total Michelle moment. Anyways we saw Moneyball.

So Moneyball was surprising good. I didn't have much hopes in enjoying this movie going into it as I'm not a sports lover but overall it was a great story. It's incredible how one man was able to convince the world to change the way baseball recruits. I'd give the movie a A-

Best Weekend EVER!

Michelle and I had a fabulous weekend together shopping, eating way more than we should have, and watching tons of movies! It may not be exciting to everyone else, but we definitely love our movie time and this weekend was no different. As for the reviews...

First we watched Hanna.

Let's just say the best part of the movie was Eric Bana (and the champagne). The worst part of the movie was everything else. I mean, it wasn't a horrible movie per se*, it just didn't make a whole lot of sense to me and I don't think it did for Michelle either. But Eric Bana is hot, so I'm thinking it didn't exactly ruin his career.

After Michelle and I had finished scratching our heads we put in Scream 4.

I was actually pretty impressed with most of the movie! Definitely didn't expect it. My least favorite part of the movie was Hayden Panettiere's hair. What was up with that? Other than that, the movie was good and I thought the opening sequence was pretty clever. My favorite? When Sookie got stabbed by Veronica Mars/the voice of Gossip Girl, that was just too funny.

The last movie we watched was Bridesmaids.

I know Michelle disagrees with me because she loved Melissa McCarthy, but my favorite was Rose Byrne. Such a different character from Ellen Parsons in Damages and I was totally loving it. I definitely hope they make a second movie! Let's face it, Wilson Phillips NEED them to make a second movie...

Weekend Movies

This weekend the movies of choice were 50/50 and What's Your Number.

50/50 was a great movie. It had the right mixture of comedy and drama. It was very realistic and made you think about your own life. Joseph Levitt Gordon is a 27 year old man who finds out he has spinal cancer and his chances of survival are 50/50. He immediately begins chemo and relies on his girlfriend and best friend to help him through it. While many story lines are predictable, the movie does offer a real look at a person's life. As usual, Seth Rogan plays the same laughable character, however he adds the right amount of heart too. Hopefully everyone has a best friend just like him. Overall I rate the movie a A- and would recommend it for everyone. Just make sure to bring your tissues!!!

All I have to say is there is lots of delicious eye candy in this movie. The story follows Anna Farris's character all over the place trying to find all the guys fro her past that she has slept with. She read an article that says any women who has more than 20 sexual partners is less likely to get to get married ten someone who has had less than 20. Anna Farris does not want to sleep with another guy so she decides to reconnect with one from her past. She enlists her neighbor (Yummy Chris Evans) to help her find these guys. While the movie has some funny parts, the plot is extremely predictable and corny. Unless you are like me, just wait for the DVD... It's not worth your $10. Overall I rate the movie a C+

Weekend Movies

So this weekend was filled with many adventures including my usual trip to the movies. This weekends movies included Abduction and The Lion King 3d.

Abduction-

First off I need to tell you that I not only enjoy teen novels but teen movies as well. There is something so entertaining about young "drama" and how it has nothing to do with reality. Abduction is a perfect example of this. Nathan (Taylor Lautner) is a high school student who suddenly discovers he is on a missing persons website. With the help of his crush Karen (Lily Collins) he proceeds to go on an entirely unrealistic journey that involves not only the bad guys hunting him but the CIA as well. While the movie was entertaining and Taylor Lautner shows that he has more to offer than his acting skills in Twilight, it is quite laughable and very unbelievable. On a side note Lily Collins is a welcome new comer and I'm looking forward to her version of Snow White... I just hope she loses some of those eyebrows. There are entirely too distracting. Overall I rate the movie a B- if you like teen movies.

Lion King 3d-

All I have to say is the Lion King does not disappoint. It is still magically fantastic as it was the first time around. I believe the "grown ups" in the theater enjoyed the movie more than the "kids" did. There was not a single dry eye left in the theater. And whats not to laugh about Simba and JTT! My only negative comment is the lack of 3d effects. There are so many scenes that 3d effect could have really added magic to the movie, but sadly there was not a single scene were the effects were noticeable. Overall I give the Lion King 3d a A- simply for the lack of 3d effects.
